Sidekick

The Flying Sidekick is perhaps the quintessential symbol of karate. When executed well, it s a blend of grace and beauty, speed and strength and awesome power. In this sculpture, by suspending the figure and keeping the foot slightly away from his opponent a feeling of anticipation is develop in the viewer. The diagonal line from the kicker’s upraised left fist to the right foot of the blocker provides the forward-downward thrust. I’ve also left it possible (although unlikely) for the blocker to deflect the kick. Very few things are certain in life.
