In the sculptor's words...The "Sea Beauty" is a traditional kind of mermaid but with a
twist in the approach. Mermaids usually lay on the ground, having a tail that is not
functional out of water. To sculpt a mermaid you have to set her on a rock to do something
to provide her with some kind of support. I've solved this problem by curling the tail
under her. She sits on her tail and it becomes a structural element. It puts the emphasis
on the mermaid alone. There are no distractions.
