Pregnant Mermaid |

|
In the sculptor's words...The "Pregnant
Mermaid" is delightful in its fantasy and rich in its symbolism. A highly polished
surface emphasizes the feeling of an underwater environment. Her face and tail, being
understated, direct the viewer's attention to her pregnant belly. The overall gesture is
that of a crucifixion with references to rebirth, new life and self-sacrifice. This
serious side is balanced by the playfulness of the image. Who is the father and what were
the events that led to this occurrence? There is a lot that is left to the viewer's
imagination.
