In the sculptor's words...
The legend of the Phoenix can be traced all the way back to ancient Egypt and the
book of the dead. The Phoenix was the only one of its kind and, at the end of
its life, (generally believed to be 500 years) would build a pyre of spice twigs and set
itself aflame, only to be reborn in youth and vigor. As an artist, I am drawn
to themes of resurrection and immortality. This Phoenix is an elegant symbol of
self-perpetuation. In a way, sculpting in bronze is a way of continuing after I'm
gone, as my work continues to influence and bring joy to others.
Maquette for a monumental bronze fountain. incorporating actual flames and water.
