| In the sculptor's words... Homebuilders was
originally commissioned by a gay couple who was looking for a sculpture that captured the
spirit of their relationship without being cheesy or homoerotic.
After an eight year search without success the turned to me to capture that
spirit in bronze.
Anyone who has built a
successful house knows the constant work that is required. The
name of the sculpture is Homebuilders as opposed to Housebuilders. This is because it is more about relationships than it is about
construction. Each person has his job to do and contributes in
his own unique way. It is a continual dance of being constructive
and supportive and at the same time staying out of your partners way.
This sculpture is brought to
the foundry as a complete wax pattern and is cast in a single pour. The
wax is assembled form eleven separate molds. Like relationships,
its not easy but worth the effort.
