In the sculptor's words...
3 figures climb skyward as each offers a helping hand to the next. Somewhere in the
sculpting process a piece takes on a life of its own. In this case this happened very
early on. "Connections" was started in response to a request for a female
version of "Self Help," a sculpture showing a man coming out of himself to pull
himself up. Despite this clear intention, I wound up sculpting 3 separate women helping
each other. Withholding what they are climbing on puts an emphasis on the cooperative
aspects and creates a dynamic composition of tension, suspension, and playfulness. |
