In the sculptor's words...
The "Centaur and Nymph" is an erotic and romantic mythological fantasy. She
enfolds him with her legs every bit as much as with her arms. I get a strong feeling of
devotion between the two figures. Even though my mythological creatures are part animal,
the human side is always dominant as in all mythologies or allegories of human strengths
and frailties. Tradition mythology has the centaurs giving their loyalties to Eros, god of
love, and Dionysus, god of wine. This centaur is caught at an uncharacteristically tender
moment. loving rather than lusting. |
