Between Shows |

In the sculptor's words...
"Between Shows" depicts three men on break. One eats his lunch, one reads a
newspaper and the other tries to get the kinks out of his back. The clown who reads the
newspaper has his rubber nose pushed up on his forehead. This is a casual gesture and it
is done in the same spirit that, for instance, a welder might do with his goggles. The act
of pushing the funny nose aside moves the clown spiritually away from the circus ring and
into the world of everyday concerns. The men look pleasant enough but there is nothing
forced in their attitude or their smiles. These are definitely career clowns but they are
also people with lives that go beyond the performance. There is only enough color to give
a carnival atmosphere to the piece but not enough to detract from the intrinsic elegance
of the bronze. |
