In the sculptor's words...

Art is my personal symbol of creativity. As a satyr, he is obsessed with sex; creativity at its most fundamental level. In his hand he holds a horn, symbolizing music; creativity at its most abstract. So "Art" includes all of man's creative inclinations and aspirations. He is also a balance of opposites. The fact that he's right side up when he's upside down, the dichotomy of man and beast and the textural opposites of rough and smooth are just three of the opposing concepts in this work. And what is the world if not a harmonious balance of opposites? "Art" not only symbolizes creativity but in a broader sense symbolizes the world.
